Robert’s Story

A former Army Combat Engineer, Robert faced serious challenges after his military service, including unresolved trauma that led to legal issues and incarceration. But with resilience, courage, and the support of Volunteers of America, he found a second chance.

In 2018, Robert enrolled in the HVAC program at NCIA. From the start, his dedication and depth of knowledge stood out. He excelled as a student, and when NCIA later faced a shortage of instructors, Robert didn’t hesitate—he stepped up to lead, returning to the same program that helped change his life.

Today, Robert is an innovative HVAC instructor at NCIA, known for his dynamic, hands-on teaching style and passion for student success. Under his guidance, the HVAC program has expanded significantly. He’s modernized the curriculum to align with current industry standards, ensuring students graduate ready to face real-world challenges with confidence.

By integrating the latest technologies and techniques, Robert isn’t just teaching a trade—he’s empowering students to build a better future. His leadership and experience make him a powerful mentor and role model for others on the path to reentry and career success.

“If you’re not sure what to do in life,” Robert says, “give us 17 weeks. We will change your life forever.”
