NCIA develops practical, individually tailored alternative sentencing proposals designed to eliminate or mitigate the use of imprisonment. Our reports seek to balance the goals of sentencing (punishment, deterrence, and rehabilitation) through the presentation of client background information, character statements, and other mitigating information. In addition, NCIA has specific expertise with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, and we use that knowledge to assist our clients in navigating the complex Federal sentencing system. Should the Court determine that a term of incarceration is necessary, we maintain extensive files on the Federal prison system that help to ease the transition to prison life. We also work extensively in state court systems nationwide and have an active parole advocacy practice.
