To ensure the safety and well-being of our individuals, NCIA’s
residential counselors provide 24-hour awake supervision, with staffing
ratios determined by individual needs. Our counselors receive all
training as required by Maryland’s Developmental Disabilities
Administration, as well as training in blood-borne pathogens in
accordance with OSHA guidelines (29 CFR §1910.1030).
They also receive training in the special needs of our individuals,
which may include, but is not limited to, behavior treatment plans
and behavioral supports and interventions, use of mechanical devices
and supports, diabetes and asthma management, special dietary requirements,
and seizure intervention and follow-up. Our mental health staff
include a psychiatrist who serves as medical director, as well as
a full-time licensed psychologist, psychology associates, registered
nurses, and case management staff.
