Meredith Patti joined NCIA in 2002 after graduating from the George
Mason University School of Law. Ms. Patti has extensive experience
analyzing federal sentencing guidelines and statutes and interprets
applicable case law to identify both errors in the government’s
calculations and mitigating information that constitutes an appropriate
basis for downward departure. She compiles detailed social histories
on behalf of clients facing disposition in federal courts and coordinates
client placement into treatment, vocational, and community service
programs. Ms. Patti also has extensive experience interpreting federal
regulations regarding designation, classification, and programming
within the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
At George Mason University, Ms. Patti was chosen to be a Writing
Fellow where she taught Legal Research, Writing and Analysis to
first-year law students for two consecutive years. In addition,
she served as a research assistant to Professor Jeffrey Parker,
former deputy chief counsel to the United States Sentencing Commission.
In this capacity Ms. Patti performed comprehensive research and
analysis for the development of a casebook on the federal sentencing
guidelines and provided legal research for “The Limits of
Federal Criminal Sentencing Policy; or, Confessions of Two Reformed
Reformers” by Jeffrey Parker and Michael Block. Ms. Patti
is a member in good standing with the Maryland State Bar.
